A Brief Look into the RSS Feed History

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) has its roots in the web syndication efforts that were pioneered by some of the major Internet technology business enterprises in the last decade of the twentieth century. The core idea was to reduce the time that was required by an individual user to access the information from any of the websites that they were used to visiting multiple times a day. The Internet age is said to be a fast paced one and the web browsers usually did not have the patience to browse through multiple pages of content in a website just to get to the information or data that they needed on a daily basis.

Though the initial web syndication efforts did not meet with much success because of the complexity of execution, the Really Simple Syndication caught on and increased in popularity as they delivered the executive briefs or summaries of the latest content or data that were put up by the different websites.

The RSS tools were initially developed for websites in the business of news dissemination. But now the RSS feeds have been successfully used to supplement the marketing and consumer education initiatives of many different business enterprises around the world. In fact, this is the fastest growing consumer contact initiative over the Internet. It was in the year 2002, that the RSS efforts got a real bolster when there was a large amount of standardization in the streamlining the back end processes to make the RSS feeds easily accessible to the majority of the web users.
